【Note】
It can be dangerous to offer apologies at a shrine in a distant place where you have not received permission and are unfamiliar with the place, so stick to just saying hello.
Let's have a bright time.
[When passing through the torii gate: Going]
At each torii gate, we call out to the deity, saying, "Let's all enter together." We cannot enter unless we are with someone from this world. The number of torii gates, excluding those that continue to be donated, is the number of gates that have been destroyed in that area.
[How to apologize at a shrine]
Offerings of Tenku tea are made to the local deity.
Bow → Two claps
"I'm ____ at ____ address."
"Today, together with all our ancestors since Daisomoto, including myself, I would like to apologize and ask for your forgiveness."
"I learned how important it is to bow down together with our ancestors."
[Words of apology]
"I deeply apologize for the crimes that have been committed over a long period of time, from my ancestors through to me as a descendant."
"I realized that I exist because of my ancestors."
"I'm truly sorry that I didn't realize this until today."
*Please tell God that the spirits who were unable to enter the torii gate should be able to see the image of the spirits apologizing.
If you ask the spirits to share the sweet tea you have offered to the gods with them, the spirits who come with you can receive some from the gods.
Worship
After the apology is complete
Bow → Two claps
"Thank you for allowing me, your descendants, to apologise for the past generations."
[When passing through the torii gate: on the way back]
Bow your head and say "Thank you" to each of the torii gates.
Trivia
Shrine of the same name
The reason there are many shrines with the same name, such as Hachiman Shrine and Hie Shrine, is because gods can have multiple identities.
The difference between a shrine and a shrine
Shrines with the word "miya" in their names are those that have close ties to the Imperial family.
Cherish your local deity
If you only go to shrines that offer worldly benefits and leave the ujigami at bay, you will lose sight of the truth and the ujigami will no longer be able to lay hands on your descendants.
The red seal makes a sin
If you are not a member of the shrine, please refrain from receiving a goshuin. Please also see the return process.
