Discover the Soul of Japan

Living the Eight Million Intentions
WAKAKOTEI is a sanctuary of integrated stays, designed to weave the ancient Japanese principles of harmony (Chowa), gratitude, and mutual support into the fabric of daily life.
While the modern world offers unprecedented convenience, it has subtly eroded our deep connections to nature and to one another.
In Japan, the timeless wisdom of Yaoyorozu no Kami—the eight million gods—teaches us that the divine resides in all things.
Plants, animals, and humans alike are sacred, existing in a beautiful web of mutual life—where each supports the other, and all collectively aspire to grow.
At its heart, this philosophy is about absolute acceptance: finding a path forward where all coexist in perfect balance. To seek answers that allow humans, animals, and nature to thrive together—this is the very way of life we seek to remember.
Since ancient times, Japan has cherished a culture that reveres nature, honors sustenance, cares for others, and lifts up the community. WAKAKOTEI is more than a place to acquire knowledge; it is a space to meet, connect with the earth, learn together, and grow. Here, we extend this circle of harmony to the next generation.
Embracing the rich, natural world watched over by the eight million gods, WAKAKOTEI invites you to embody this spirit, live it fully, and carry it back home into your everyday life.
The Origins of WAKAKOTEI
The name "WAKAKOTEI" embodies a universally shared philosophy: "Where there is a will, there is a way."
For instance, there is a proverb in the language of New Zealand's indigenous Māori people:
"He moana pukepuke e ekengia e te waka"
(Even a stormy ocean can be crossed by a waka / canoe.)
This proverb carries the wisdom that no matter how turbulent or challenging the waters of life may become, they can always be overcome with clear purpose and steadfast effort. Just as the Japanese saying Naseba naru—"Where there is a will, there is a way"—this proverb reflects an unwavering belief in human potential.
Holding this shared philosophy close to our hearts, WAKAKOTEI aspires to be a sanctuary where individuals can take their next courageous step, connect deeply with one another, learn together, and sail forward toward tomorrow.
