Live like a local, connect with the soul of Japan.

WAKAKOTEI Homestay

Hoshi-Akari Takine

True travel is woven from more than just visiting famous sights. It is about breathing in the air of a new land, savoring its local flavors, forming deep connections with its people, and gently touching its culture. This, we believe, is the very essence of a journey.

At WAKAKOTEI, we invite you to stay within a traditional home that beautifully preserves the nostalgic charm of the Showa era. Here, you can truly experience the rhythm of Japanese life, its culture, and a deep harmony with nature.

Step away from the rush of daily life to realign your mind and listen to the quiet whispers of the earth. We invite you to lose track of time amidst the ever-changing beauty of the seasons and our heartfelt, traditional Japanese hospitality.

*Please note that a host is on-site at all times, and staff members come and go on a daily basis.

Rooms

Dissolve into the night, breathe in the classic Japanese life. Our rooms are named after the brilliant stars and the gentle moon that grace the night sky of this region. The scent of tatami mats, the soft sliding of paper screens (Fusuma), and the comforting embrace of a traditional futon. Here, you can experience with all your senses the simple yet rich daily wisdom that Japanese people have woven for generations.

2F Japanese-Style Suite

Hoshi no Ma (The Star Room)

Located at the top of the stairs on the second floor, this is our property’s most spacious guest room. The traditional Japanese-style rooms are seamlessly connected by fusuma (sliding paper doors), making it the perfect space for families or groups to experience the unique, flexible way of Japanese living through traditional partitions.

In this private second-floor sanctuary, you can lay out traditional futon bedding directly on the soft tatami mats. Drift off to sleep while feeling the gentle presence of the night shared with your loved ones. We invite you to spend a nostalgic, deeply comforting Japanese night right here.

Two-room Traditional Japanese Suite: 11.6 Tatami (~19 m² / 200 sq ft)

Capacity: 4 people

1F Japanese-Style Room

Tsuki no Ma (The Moon Room)

Nestled on the first floor, Tsuki no Ma is a traditional Japanese room filled with a dignified, serene stillness. Enclosed by classic fusuma sliding doors, you may not be able to gaze upon the moon directly from within. Yet, this is the very essence of In'ei—the beauty of shadows that the Japanese people have cherished since ancient times.

Here, you will find a luxurious silence where the unseen is felt through all five senses: the faint, ethereal glow of moonlight filtering through paper shoji and fusuma screens, the gentle chorus of evening insects, and the passing whisper of the wind.

Traditional Japanese Room: 8 Tatami (~13 m² / 140 sq ft)
